Subcommittees
Circulation, Interlibrary Service, Reference
Subcommittees, made up of experts from each UT component, will provide input and guidance to the Task Force concerning the implementation of library services essential to distance users.

Subcommittees will allow key individuals in decision-making roles to become involved, remain informed, and have the opportunity to speak to the issues at hand.

Subcommittee chairs will be responsible for reporting to and working directly with the Task Force.

Current Issues : Draft Proposal for Centralized ILL for TeleCampus Students (Word document). Excerpt from draft:
A centralized approach provides consistent service, with a single access point that works throughout the program of study-not just for one semester. Combining the resources of all UT component libraries increases the level of service that can be provided from within UT System. Libraries can participate to the extent their resources allow-a library with temporarily reduced staffing won't need to refuse service or provide reduced service to TeleCampus students because other libraries will fill in. In a centralized approach, territorial boundaries are dissolved, and TeleCampus users are every library's patrons not just the current host's.

Collaborative Virtual Reference : The Reference Subcommittee, chaired by Terry Wang, has been exploring the viability of a collaborative virtual reference service for distance learners, specifically those enrolled in UT System component-sponsored distance education courses (i.e., not necessarily UT System TeleCampus courses). Terry created a seven-question survey and sent it via e-mail to each of her subcommittee members. She received responses from 15 of the subcommittee's 19 representatives.

Terry has prepared a Survey Response Report (Word document) profiling the survey questions and the responses received. Reference Subcommittee members were provided with this report directly.

Terry touches on relevant issues in a broader context in a report she wrote after attending the Third Annual Virtual Reference Desk (VRD) in Orlando, Florida in November. Her Virtual Reference Desk Conference Report (Word document) is provided here for your perusal.
