After welcoming all those present, discussion was begun regarding the proposed meeting date of August 15, 2001. The point was made that this date is the first day of school for many school districts in the state. The group seemed to be willing to stick to the 15th but did begin discussion on a start time. After some suggestions were made, it was agreed that a continental breakfast would be served at 9:30 a.m. with business to begin at 10:00 a.m.
The conversation then moved to possible discussion topics for the day of the meeting.
- Communication avenues - What are the best ways for the Task Force and its subcommittees to interact? E-mail? Conference calls? Meetings? Etc.
- Remote access methods - What are schools currently using/planning to use? It was suggested that this type of information be rolled into an informal report to be made by each school present that would become part of the overall schedule for the meeting.
- Formal presentations - Do Task Force members want some sort of formal presentation to be made on specific topics? The unanimous answer was yes. Suggestions included an overview of chat software, proxy service, DigiRef, portals and/or portal software, electronic reserves and copyright. Each of these topics was deemed worthy and efforts will be made to find local presenters on each.
- Breakout sessions for subcommittee members present - This was deemed to possible be a bit premature and it was decided to see how things go on the day of the meeting. It might be possible for any subcommittee members to informally meet at lunch, for example.
- Clarification on the purpose of the task force - Discussion on how it came to be, why and how were the subcommittees decided upon?
All Task Force members were reminded of the presence of the OffCamp web pages and discussion list and were urged to subscribe themselves if they haven't already done so. How to subscribe to OffCamp.
After a brief discussion about ITDE, the conference call was ended at 10:30 a.m.
